APM Terminals (APM) is set to acquire 50% of Brasil Terminal Portuario (BTP), a new container terminal being built in Santos, Brazil.

The terminal is expected to be fully operational by mid-2013. It will have a depth of 15 metres, three deep water berths and a capacity of 2.2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

The new terminal will be jointly managed by Terminal Investment Limited and APM.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is expected to be the anchor tenant, but the terminal is in negotiation with other shipping lines.

Santos is the largest port in Brazil with more than 25% of the country's trade passing through the port.

APM currently operates terminals in the Brazilian ports of Pecem and Itajai, offering inland services and depots.

Terminal Investment operates the terminal of Portonave in Navegantes, Brazil.
