Algeciras reports Q1 growth

The Port of Algeciras Bay saw activity volumes rise by 6.2% during the first quarter (Q1) of 2010.

The port handled 16.9 million tonnes of total throughput during Q1.  That included 9.4 million tonnes of containerized goods, a 15.8% year-on-year increase.

Container traffic measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the period rose 6.9% to 739,244 TEUs.

The number of vessels calls was 6,051, a 6% increase, Port of Algeciras Bay Authority (APBA) said.
